Nut-fair
At the beginning of October, on its famous nut-fair "Nessmoort", Vianden sells the nuts gathered under the numerous nut-trees of the neighbouring slopes. Vianden, too, is the only place in Luxembourg to burn the St. Martin Fire ("Miertchen") in November. The custom to adorn a dog rose-bush ("Jaudes") with gaudy ribbons, which children carry through the streets on Good-Friday, thus commemorating Judas' suicide, is unique, too. The Carnival celebrations ("Fuasicht») allow Vianden's population to prove they have remained the gay and laughing people who delighted Victor Hugo.
